NEW CARDIO SAFETY GUIDE

  • Two of our latest additions to the gym are state of the art cardio vascular machines; the air runners and stair masters.
  • Due to their unique functionality and adaptability to real life movement we would strongly advise that you have an induction with one of our staff here at No1.
  • Both machines have proven to outshine other more traditional forms of cardio when it comes to calorie expenditure but we want to make sure you use them both efficiently and safely.
  • The air runners are motor-less meaning you have to use both gravity and your own force to propel the belt and get it up to speed.
  • There is a safe zone in the middle where if stood the belt won’t move.  By striding forward and keeping a natural gate and posture the belt will move with your desired speed.
  • It’s very important to keep upright and in a natural walking, running position.  If you look at your feet and lean forward the belt can accelerate leading to a sense of un-control and potential injury.
  • Initially start with hands on the safety bars until you feel comfortable to use without.
  • Remember to use the different intensity settings depending on what function of training you are looking to achieve.
  • The stair masters help to create the challenge of climbing stairs in a safe and controlled manner.
  • When selecting an effort level or programme the belt will speed up gradually allowing you to determine if the setting is right for you; this can easily be adjusted by the plus and minus buttons on the handles.
  • The belt speeds up in phases meaning that you can’t accelerate too much too soon.  If you are comfortable with a pace you can then increase again after a small safety pause.
  • The stair masters also have a nice safety feature if you ever feel the pace is too much.  If you were ever to come off the back the belt will stop immediately allowing you to change the setting before getting back on.
